Cream of Shrimp: The Glamore Christmas Story
And lo, a baby was born, though not a virgin birth, and he visited the cousins (with his parents, Aunt Lulu and Uncle P), and the Glamores and all the extended cousins gazed upon him with rapture, noting his every screech and fart.

We supped on Royal Seafood Casserole, an ancient concoction from my late mother’s 1972 edition of the Southern Living Party Cookbook.

It’s a dish that demonstrates that cream of shrimp soup, mayonnaise, and water chestnuts can be delicious indeed when combined with a judicious amount of shrimp, crab and rice and seasoned well with nutmeg, Tabasco, salt, pepper. Miraculous!
Reaching again into the annals of history, Drew and I prepared the famous Chocolate Roulage from Cobb Lane restaurant, just like my mother and all her friends did in the 80s. We tasted the whipped cream filling and felt it lacking, so we added some rum and behold! A dessert that was a joy to the eye as well as the palate.
Christmas morning brought no Coke machine or laptop, but there was great amusement and merriment had by all as a result of a thirteen dollar metal detector, some rocking 80s music, Legos galore, books and a camera for Porter. Finn was the well-satisfied recipient of an Abercrombie shirt which he declared a “chick magnet” and strutted about the house in for most of the day.
Porter grew bored with still photos by afternoon, and then was transformed into a young Martin Scorsese, creating short films on his camera starring his brothers, with inane dialogue and all set to the background theme “Funkytown.” (I was startled at this turn of events, not realizing that such a cheap camera had the capacity to make movies.) The normally retiring Drew was inspired to perform the robot dance as well as the monkey, and his talents (and ever-increasing need for orthodontic work) were duly recorded for posterity.
Meanwhile the parents, having birthed a successful Christmas, took to their beds and arose only for leftovers.
The next day all Glamores arose, and prepared for their trip to New York, details of which will be recorded as soon as the boys get their buttocks back in school.
