Old Bathwater

Looks like I can quit forcing Porter to haul buckets of dirty bathwater outside to pour on my perennials, for the moment at least, because it’s raining. 

Unfortunately, the paper says it’s not going to rain much, and we’re still under Stage Three drought watering restrictions.  We can water by hand every Tuesday and Friday before 10 am and after 10 pm.  I can never seem to get to the hose at those hours, which is why we have two bathtubs full of nasty water, which can be used at any time.

At this point all I’m interested in saving are the French blue hydrangeas and rose campion my mother gave me.  The grass is brown and crispy and I just don’t give a damn.

Will the Pantene Pro-V Shampoo and Conditioner in the water kill my plants, or give them shiny, voluminous foliage?

Shouldn’t Porter, the inventor/mama’s boy, be able to come up with an easier way to get the water from the tub to the plants?

Suggestions are welcome!

   I’m sitting here watching the rain - thinking that the plants must be terribly confused about this unfamiliar substance showering down upon them.

   get a cheap garden pump (outdoor water fountain type) that can have a standard plug attached to it if not already there. Buy appropriate type and amount of tubing. Put Finn in the bath room with the pump and one sucking end of the tube in the bath water and put porter with the water end outside with the spouting end.

   I once had a sick house plant, it had some sort of bugs living in its soil. My Grandma told me to add dishsoap to a spray bottle of water and spray its leaves and then use the rest to water the plant. It killed the bugs and the plant lived. I think a little Pro-V treatment could make your hyderangea leaves brilliant with body and shine
   Im sure its fine, better than dying of dehydration.

   You know, I still say that if we can build gas pipelines all over the place we should be able to have water pipelines to transport water from flooded areas to drought-stricken areas. Seems like a good philanthropical idea for some of these multi-billionaires in the world. Too much for the government to handle, what with all the extra tax money they have to spare because they are so frugal with our money…..

   I’m glad to know I’m not the only one shlepping shower water outside. to water my plants. We have 2 buckets catching water in the shower.

   I feel your pain. We’ve resorted to the same thing…carrying Jessie’s used bathwater outside every night to my thirsty tomatoes. I’m NOT losing them after all this hard work.

    I wonder if your hydrangeas will be blessed with volume and bounce or just smell like a**. Please update once this little experiment is complete.

    Okay - I’m with you - get that kid on Google and have his little Mister Wizard self find an appropriate method of water purification. He can have at it, purify the tubsful of water, and save the Hydrangeas. God, I love Hydrangeas.

    But I don’t think Pantene will hurt. After all, the “V” in Pro-V stands for vitamins, and gee whiz, even plants like nutrients. Right? Right?

    Ah hell, what do I know, I’m in the throes of scathing PMS and it’s 7:25am and all I can think about is when I can have a glass of wine and a nap. Please, somebody shoot me. This is madness.

    (But water the plants first.)

    Here’s hoping for copious rainfall for all y’all.

    Soapy water will help keep the bugs away, actually. My mom used to use it to water our garden all of the time.

    i have no water restrictions, but i know wating in the morning is best, and i too can never get out there, so i invested in a water timer. I attached it to our hose bib, attached a splitter, attached a drop hose on each side, arranged the drop hoses as artfully as possible .. and then set the timer to water every 3rd day for an hour. works beautifully
