Twin Tales Proved True: A Look Back
Sure, I’m prone to exaggeration but most of what I say is fairly accurate, no matter what the Voice of Reason and Bill believe.
I have long been telling the boys stories about things they did when they were little, and Bill has doubted my veracity each time. This weekend I was working on a project that required me to go through some (millions) of photos, and I found photographic proof of the following anecdotes circa 1999 or 2000:
1. It is no use sending one twin to time-out.
But because twins travel in teams, the other will wander over and the punishment will morph into a giggle-session, and all hopes of teaching a lesson will be lost.
On the up side, the pictures will be worth it.
2. Once the twins were mobile, it was hard to keep up with both them and Finn, who was four at the time of the next picture. One day in the midst of the cacophony, I lost Porter. We were all inside and the doors were locked, so I knew he had to be in the house. Still, it took Finn and me thirty minutes to find Porter

sitting in the bathroom drawer.
3. Okay, so I lost him more than once. The next time I looked in the bathroom drawer first. No sign of Porter. We looked in closets, under cribs, and in the pantry, another favorite hiding place. Nope. He’d been snotty (in his nose, not his attitude) and I thought I might find a slimy trail to follow but I was not so lucky.
I got panicky and thought about calling Bill. Just before I did, Finn located the devious one. Porter had put his favorite stuffed animals under the sink in the boys’ bathroom, climbed on top, closed the cabinet doors, and settled in for a nap.
I’ve never been so happy to kiss a nasty nose in my life.

I love the time-out one, but the others are great too! Gotta love that photographic proof. It’ll come in handy in later years for blackmailing purposes too, I’m sure…

I have a similar story. And no cute pictures. Anyway, I had one very cute, very smart yet very bad mini doxie. About 14 years ago (man am I getting old) I came home from work and she was GONE! Since she was very small and prone to trouble, she used to stay in the kitchen while my husband and I were at work. She was not there! The gate appeared to be in place, but she often managed to wiggle her 7 lb. self around it and usually met me proudly at the door. No. Dog. Uh. Oh.
So I walk around calling her name. Her favorite place, since she was still puppy-ish at the time was in the closet chewing my most expensive pair of shoes. I don’t know how dogs manage to know, but they do.
So I check the closet. Not there. I’m calling and calling and no puppy! Now, I am convinced someone stole her. This is one extremely cute dog that everyone who sees her loves. Someone broke in and stole her! OMG! Where is my dog!?!?!?!?
Now I am frantic.
She always comes when called. She’s hurt. She’s been stolen. I’ll never see her again.
Half an hour passes. This dog is pretty small, could be anywhere. I have ripped everything apart to see if she managed to wedge herself someplace. I can’t believe someone stole my dog and I will never see her again!
(Voice of reason here, during all the frantic it never occurred to me that everything else is in place. TV, jewelry, etc.)
Now, I’m in tears.
Then I hear it.
The slightest noise. A whimper? The frantic calling starts again. I hear the tiniest bumping sound.
Where is it? Under the sink, in the bathroom. She is sitting there, calm as can be, looking at me with, could it be, annoyance?
What took you so long?

Those are adorable! I stand in awe of mothers of twins! The youngest of my four boys is now 19 months, any one of them at that age plus one? I’d either die of laughter or dehydration from all the crying . . .

Only thing I ever found in my boy’s bathroom cabinet was stinky underpants from when they had an accident and didn’t want to tell me about it!
Onward to good news…my oldest son is coming home on July 8th! Thanks again for your help.

Lost my 4 year old in an old department store on the square of our hometown. He was gone for 45 minutes. The police were called. One of the cashiers told me she had seen another woman leave the store with a child matching my son’s description. I was a basket-case. We finally found him wedged in the middle of a rack of discount blue jeans. I still get teary-eyed thinking about it.

My mother tells me my sister and I pulled the same shenanigans. Thankfully, she hasn’t told my kids about this wonderful idea yet!

Too funny! I lost my niece once in the house. I called 911 and everything. the police found her sound asleep behind the Euro shams on her bed. Nice. I was mortified. But, I do blame watching to much Oprah because I was convinced she had been abducted!
