Safety Tip:Road ID

I’m sure I’ve written about Bill’s exhausting exercise regime. He’s been training for upcoming triathlons in Memphis and San Francisco, so he spends a lot of time on the road running and biking.

It’s treacherous. We live near the high school, and we all know teens are nutty, swervy drivers. Bill runs and bikes miles in the dark. He doesn’t carry his Blackberry with him when he’s running, as he wears so few clothes that he has nowhere to put it. Plus, if he were knocked unconscious it would do him little good.

I don’t enjoy thinking about him getting hurt, but my mantra is prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

I just bought him an identification bracelet from RoadId.com.

Here’s a sample from their website:

I put his name and our phone numbers on it and Matt. 19:26, which refers to a verse that ought to keep him going on the uphill parts of his training.

I purchased the original bracelet, but RoadID offers other colors and products, including an id that fits on your shoe, and a flashing firefly light that can be seen up to a mile away.

If you have a walking, running or biking group this is a must. The Firefly light would also be handy for keeping track of your children at Halloween. In fact, readers, please leave your ideas for these products in the comments. I know their uses go far beyond sports.

Edward at RoadID has offered all my readers a discount if you use the code ThanksAnne348175 when you check out.

I thought he was having an affair with a big-assed lady the first time I found them in the laundry. Never in a million years did I think he wore these to be aerodynamic in the water.

Damn. I found ANOTHER one.

It is just lucky for him that I love him so much, or I’d have to tell the world about his itty-bitty swimmies.

Porter’s Week In Review

Porter Glamore: Infomercial Authority

The boys were watching a sporting event when an ad for Nutrisystem came on.

“Really you should go with the Bowflex instead,” Porter said, looking up briefly from his Legoes.

“Even though you get two free weeks with Nutrisystem, after that you have to pay a lot of money. Bowflex is a better deal for the money and everyone knows you have to exercise to lose weight.”

Porter Glamore: Dishwashing Excitement

Always curious, Porter wondered what would happen if he added this:
scrub
to the dishwasher.

Result:
bubbles
Who can be angry about bubbles, especially in the name of science? Plus, a small area of the floor is much cleaner than it was previously.

Porter Glamore: Amateur Ornithologist

Porter slaved away on his multiplication facts, particularly those pesky 6’s, after I promised to pay for 1/2 a parakeet if he could perform his 6’s perfectly two days in a row.

Here is Feathers, a whole parakeet. Porter came up with $8 of his own. feathers

Feathers loves to hang out with Porter.

Feathers can’t wait to see what happens next in A Wrinkle in Time.

I personally would not like to have a bird sitting on my head, but Porter has had nastier creatures there.

Bullseye?

We’ve been working on creating a website for Porter, because I can’t think of anyone who has more daily adventures that need chronicling.

Here’s an outtake from his spot "Bullseye!"

Who knew Bill had that comic talent all bottled up inside?

I'm Anne Glamore, wife, mother, lawyer and blogger. I have three boys, and I'm desperately trying to train them to become Southern gentlemen, but that may be an unrealistic goal. I write about my attempts to teach the boys about peckers and sex (which we call "making googly eyes"), my struggles with hepatitis C and spine surgery, the boys' adventures with fire and pets, my mom's death from ovarian cancer, my love of cooking (with plenty of recipes) and anything else that crosses my mind. Alltop, confirmation that I kick ass

    What I'm Reading

I've never read any of his fiction, but his book about the craft of writing was awesome.

Hey, I have a story in this book about how I'm not always the best mom. It's guaranteed to make you feel better about yourself, especially the part where I throw stuff at Finn.

I'd heard a lot about this and enjoyed it, but not as much as one of my all-time faves:

    The Boys Are Loving

I didn't think Porter would like this, but I was desperate for him to read something, so I shoved it at him and it was a WINNER.

Hooray-- there's a sequel to the original Diary. The guys are snarfing it up.

Porter finished all the Harry Potter books so I started him on A Wrinkle In Time, and he's enjoying it. I bought the whole set so he'd have plenty to read for the next few months.

After finishing the Harry Potters, Drew turned to the Hardy Boys. He can't tell a story "in a nutshell," so I've heard all about the missing jalopy, and the red wig. Solve the mystery already!
