Doocey Again: Dragon Edition

Porter discovered a book called Dragonology (A Field Guide To Dragons) when we spent half the day at the bookstore.

It’s designed as if it were written in 1898 by a dragonologist who provides information about dragon spotting and their habitats, and exhorts readers to continue his investigations. Best of all, the book contains small envelopes, each filled with lushly colored cardboard pieces that can be assembled to form twelve different types of dragons. They’re like manly paper dolls for boys.

I’ve written previously about the other -ology books ( Wizardology , Pirateology , Egyptology) and this one may be the best yet.

    Ooh, I like that. What age group is into that sort of thing? I have 1 Godson & 2 cousins (8,11 &13)I’m always shopping for in dismay b/c they have everything. This is something they wouldn’t have and it doesn’t require batteries or electricity. Maybe their mommas will grasp that concept as well :)

    We have the Mythology (excellent book!) and Egyptology books. I know the Dragon book will make it’s way into our house - I’m thinking of it for a “end of school” gift.

    What I'm Reading


    I've never read any of his fiction, but his book about the craft of writing was awesome.

    Hey, I have a story in this book about how I'm not always the best mom. It's guaranteed to make you feel better about yourself, especially the part where I throw stuff at Finn.

    I'd heard a lot about this and enjoyed it, but not as much as one of my all-time faves:

    The Boys Are Loving


    I didn't think Porter would like this, but I was desperate for him to read something, so I shoved it at him and it was a WINNER.

    Hooray-- there's a sequel to the original Diary. The guys are snarfing it up.


    Porter finished all the Harry Potter books so I started him on A Wrinkle In Time, and he's enjoying it. I bought the whole set so he'd have plenty to read for the next few months.


    After finishing the Harry Potters, Drew turned to the Hardy Boys. He can't tell a story "in a nutshell," so I've heard all about the missing jalopy, and the red wig. Solve the mystery already!
