A Little Bit of Everything
I’m thrilled to have escaped chez Glamore, as it’s been a hectic week. Porter evidently felt that with Drew at camp he had to do twice as much talking, although Drew is the quietest boy I have and it took about a week before I really noticed his absence and started missing him.
Each morning Porter and Finn have been at Bible School, and though Porter told all the teachers he was Drew the first day, the next two days he filled out his nametag “Mr. Glamore” and refused to answer to anything else.
This morning I packed my bags and hit the road to pick Drew up from camp. All the evidence I’ve seen so far in the form of pictures and letters lead me to conclude he’s not going to be glad to see me. He seems to be equally enamored of the horses and a counselor named Justin, and won’t want to live without them. We’re zoned for extra males, so Justin is welcome, but we’re not zoned for horses. Plus, I force Drew to change into clean clothes and brush his teeth every day, so he’ll have a big adjustment to make.
I’m currently in Traveler’s Rest, S.C. I listened to my entire repetoire of Better Than Ezra songs on my way up here, and relived the two times I’ve seen them live, once with the girls in New Orleans at the House of Blues, and once with Drew at the Crawfish Boil. I keep wondering when I’m going to be too old for concerts, but I just purchased Maroon 5/Counting Crows tickets for the whole family so apparently I have a few months left in me yet.
Speaking of music, I mentioned to Finn that John Mellencamp had a music career under the name “John Cougar” and he didn’t believe me. I’d always heard that his record label made him use the “catchier” (?) Cougar, but given the names bands and singers have today, Finn wasn’t having any of it.
He had some monry for iTunes, and surprised me on the way to church by playing “Jack and Diane” which he deemed “pretty cool.” I surprised him, in turn, by singing every word of the song, even the part where Jack and Diane climb in the backseat of the car and start disrobing, and he blushed.
I’d love to stay and chat, but I located a Jazzercise class in nearby Taylors, S.C. and no kidding, I’m going.

My S.O. and I just had a conversation about how many times John Mellencamp has changed his name…there was John Cougar Mellencamp, then John Cougar, and lastly John Mellencamp. Both you and Finn are much better than myself because I can’t stand the guy. No rhyme or reason-just don’t like him. He was just as bad as Jefferson Starship/Airplane/whatever.

Ok, I already knew you were a cool mom, but…but…Better Than Ezra! I was not expecting to see that name here. I’ve seen them live 57 times–not kidding, 57!–and my admiration of you has increased. Now if I could get a Jazzercise instructor to do an entire class to BTE songs, I might actually go

I just had a student come to my 6am Jazzercise class this morning for the first time. She usually can’t make it then because she works, but she was on vacation, and getting up at the crack of dawn to Jazzercise was what she wanted to do! I have many other students who track down classes while they’re away on vacation. And while I didn’t take any time off of teaching for my 3rd pregnancy (well, except for the 6 weeks afterwards) I have to say I’ve yet to seek out a class while I’m on vacation. You’re all very dedicated! (By the way, I do like Freeze Frame on infrequent occasion, but It’s Raining Men rarely makes my lineup, and then more because it’s around something like Valentine’s Day than the fact that it’s actually raining. ;))

Amazing. Not 5 seconds before I clicked over here I was thinking about the name Ezra (yes, I’m pregnant and I think about names All Day Long), and then I thought, naturally, of Better Than Ezra.

I love Jack and Diane, but Little Pink Houses is by far my favorite!
I thought about you when I watched this post by my pastor, who is also the father of three boys, just a little younger than yours. Bow Chica Wow Wow! LOL! Aparently, Alvin and the Chipmunks have made this cool again.

Finn’s developed a wide range of musical taste. Good for him.I have to admit I’m partial to Mellencamp, he’s slightly older than me, and he’s still rockin!
I suggest you introduce him to my favorites-Hurt’s So Good and Cherry Bomb.

I saw John Cougar back in the 80’s at the BJCC and got real close to the stage!! I wore Bobbie Brooks and College Town clothing in high school. Oh, what memories.
Anne, are you sure that Justin isn’t really Justine, a girl counselor?? You’ll have to wait until you get up there and see. Have fun.

I can’t wait to hear all about his camp stories. Life through his eyes should be fantastic and worth weeks of blogging.

That is so funny…I just had this same conversation about John Cougar/Cougar Mellencamp/Mellencamp (BTW execs didn’t think “Mellencamp” was marketable) with my oldest.
She has recently decided that 80’s “retro” music is really cool.
I’ve amazed my kids for years singing “new” songs that are actually remakes of the songs we grew up with.(Doesn’t anyone actually WRITE songs anymore? All this sampling going on…)
Lucky you…you are still the “cool mom”…I have fallen over the edge into “embarassing mom”… >sigh<
Mr. Mellencamp said it best…
“…hold on to 16 as long as you can, changes come around real soon and make us women and men…”

It is completely illogical I’ll admit, but I always get a little tickled when I read someone is somewhere I’ve been. My sister used to live somewhere near Traveler’s Rest SC. (I had to google map it, she lived in Greenville).
I never really realize Maroon 5 is as overtly sexual as it is. Usually I’m just singing along and then one day I actually listened to what I was singing and I blushed.
